Review

Lots of ebook compilers on the market today

Just a few years ago there was only a few ebook compilers on the market. Not all of them were particularly good.

This has changed however. Today, there are numerous ebook compilers. And each of them have different features, and the owners and makers promise their buyers that their product is the best.

With this in mind, I began to look critically on several ebook compilers. And this review is the first result of this.

eBook Edit Pro

One of the ebook compilers I've tested is eBook Edit Pro. While not being the expensive compiler, it's not the cheapest either.

It has a very good reputation, and several of the most successful information marketers have already used it for their ebooks.

Lots of features

eBook Edit Pro has a lot of features. For example, one of them is the possibility to adjust exactly what you want the navigation bar to look like. So far as I know, this feature isn't included in any of the other ebook compilers I've seen. This may not sound like a terrible important feature, and I agree that there are other and more important features in a good ebook compiler. But what I really like about eBook Edit Pro is that it contains all those features included in most other ebook compilers plus such extra features as the possibility to adjust exactly what you want the navigation bar to look like.

Besides, such a feature as the one I've just mentioned - being able to customize the navigation bar completely - is precisely what makes the end-result (your compiled ebooks) nice to look at and more user-friendly. You may laugh a bit when I say this, but actually the nice look of ebooks compiled by eBook Edit Pro was what initially called my attention to this compiler. And you better believe this, The graphical look for your ebooks has greater importance than you probably believe.

It's interface

Thus, one thing I really like about this ebook compiler, is it's user interface. And this applies both to the compiler itself (when you're making the ebooks) and the compiled books (which the reader will see). Everything look clean and neat.

But what's most important, this software program works extremely well. Seldom have I seen a software product that's both so userfriendly and effective. The creators of eBook Edit Pro have really invested a lot of work and energy into making this a product that's both easy to use and effective.

The navigation is excellent. Again, this applies both to the compiler itself and the compiled books. In my opinion this is very important. Some of the other compilers I've tested, are much more difficult to navigate in. And naturally, the easier it is to navigate around in the compiler and the ebooks, the eaiser it is to use the products.

One example

Concerning the navigation, let me mention just one example.

When using software programs, I like to use my mouse as little as possible. Instead I prefer to use the keys on my keyboard as much as possible.

The reason is that it's usually both faster and less strenuous to your hands, arms and shoulders.

For example, when navigating between tabs in a software program, you can often use the key short cut <ctrl>+<Tab> to go from tab to tab.

When I tested eBook Edit Pro, I wanted to find out whether this tried to use this key short cut works here too. To my delight I found that it works here too. But when I checked it in another very popular ebook compiler it turned out that it didn't work in that program.

The same applies to the ebooks compiled in eBook Edit Pro. When I use Internet Explorer to view web pages, I often use the <Tab>-key to navigate around the links. You can try it out yourself. Each time you press the <Tab>-key, you jump to the next link on the web page, and you'll notice that the new link is marked by a dotted retancle. This works in eBook Edit Pro too. But when I tried to use it in some books compiled by one of the most popular ebook compilers, it didn't work.

Of course these features are only details. But when you add them to all the other features in eBook Edit Pro, they just emphasize what a great piece of software this is.

The creation process - how easy is it?

In my opinion the creation and compilation process in eBook Edit Pro can't be easier. It's very difficult to misunderstand anything. If you are confused about anything, just touch that feature with your mouse, and you'll instantly get a pop-up bubble that'll tell you what it is.

Besides, as an owner of this product, you'll get access to a whole line of online videos that explain each step in the creation process. It simply can't be easier. When I reviewed this software, I've reviewed these videos too, and they are very, very good and to-the-point.

In short, this is one of the absolute best supported software programs I've ever seen. If you got the same kind of help in all other software products, most people wouldn't ever have a problem with using software products. This help you get to run this software is simply very, very good.

The finished ebooks

When I tested eBook Edit Pro, I used it to make a complete ebook in order to get the best impression of how well it works.

Among other things, I tested the size of the files made by eBook Edit Pro. Then I compared it to the size of the same ebook, if I made it with another very popular ebook compiler. What amazed me, was the fact that the file (ebook) I made with eBook Edit Pro was considerable smaller than the file I made with the other compiler. Actually the ebook compiled by the competing compiler was 32.2 percent larger than the ebook I compiled by eBook Edit Pro.

Besides, the ebook I compiled by eBook Edit Pro looks much better than the one compiled with the competing compiler.

The files I compiled with the two compilers were exactly identical. The only difference was the compilers.

One problem for this kind of ebook compilers

The only problem I found with this program, is that the reader of the compiled ebooks, need to have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (or higher) installed on his or her computer. And if you want to use eBook Edit Pro, you have to run it on a PC. In other words, you can't use it on a Mac.

However this applies to almost all other ebook compilers as well. So, it's not a problem that applies to only eBook Edit Pro.

Besides, whether you like it or not, most people on the net either already use IE or have it installed on their computer. And - again, whether you like it or not - PCs are the most widespread computers today. Personally, I both have a Mac and a PC, and many newer Macs allow you to run PC-compatible programs.

Excellent service

Finally, I would like to mention something very important.

When I tested eBook Edit Pro, I asked the manager of the company who owns this software - Michele Watson - several questions. And despite being very busy, I got an excellent service. And at least to me getting a good service is extremely important.

In my opinion this just raises the value of this product.

Besides, all buyers of eBook Edit Pro are intitled to receive all upgrades of the software. Just in the short period that I've had this software, it has been upgraded once, to a new version with even more features.

Overall assessment

As I said earlier in this review, there are many ebook compilers on the market today. And some of them are really good.

Maybe with the exception of Adobe Acrobat, in my opinion, overall eBook Edit Pro is the best ebook compiler I've seen to date.

Of course I haven't still tried all the compilers on the market today, so I may change my opinion. But I really like this program. It's extremely easy to use. The compiled books look really good and work excellent. And the help you get as a user, is excellent. I simply can't imagine that anyone can go wrong investing in this product.
