Review

This manual (ebook) by Tyler Schultz goes through all the fundamental aspects of creating your own information products – such as, for instance, ebooks.

Tyler has a simple seven step formula for creating information products.

His first step is to find a good idea and subject for your information product. In this chapter he has a helpful list of potential subjects and titles for one’s products. In this chapter I especially found Tyler’s emphasis on modelling other successful marketers, to be helpful.

Tyler’s next step is to organise one’s ideas to actually find that ideas which may be the best idea for one self. Here Tyler describes how one can combine different ideas and thus turn them into winners. Tyler has included some practical and useful lessons in this chapter which may help you to find that winning idea for you.

The third step is to find out if your product is actually going to sell – before you create and publish it. Tyler here guides his readers through the process of finding the market first.

I totally agree with Tyler’s emphasis on testing small here – before you move forward and set aside time and energy for creating a bigger product.

The fourth step is researching your topic. Here Tyler gives some important advice on how to research your topic. And I am happy to see that he includes more important options than most other books on how to create information products. So often other courses limit the ways of doing research to a few tools on the Internet. Or they just mention the importance of going to the local library. But Tyler gives some other helpful ways to doing the necessary research.

In this chapter Tyler also has some really useful and slightly original ideas for researching. I especially like his emphasis on researching not only your narrow topic, but also the related areas of your topic.

The fifth step is to actually write your information product – presuming that you want to create a written product. In this chapter Tyler has some helpful advice on how to make the writing process easier and funnier. He shows how to find out what to write and how to make your writing sound interesting.

The sixth step is to go through your product again and edit it, in order to complete it, so that it's ready for publishing.

The seventh step is to publish your work. In this chapter Tyler shows how to decide which format in which you want to publish your product - whether you want it to be a ebook, a hard-print book, a secret site etc.

One very positive trait of this chapter, is that Tyler doesn't limit himself to ebooks. He also has some helpful comments on how to make, for instance, a member's only site (a password protected website).

Finally, Tyler has a chapter on how to get the motivation to start out and finish your project. In this chapter he gives some useful advice on how to overcome procrastination and other hindrances for finishing your projects.

As an appendix Tyler has inserted a good bullet list, showing how each of the bullets in his salesletter is answered in his ebook. This bullet list both shows that Tyler delivers as promised, plus it serves as a reminder of what Tyler has shown his readers in his book.

Summary

As you can see, Tyler covers some of the most basic and most important steps of making your own information product.

If you’re starting out and want to make your own information product, this is a fine introduction to doing so. Tyler’s book is both practical and an easy read.

But if you want the more advanced lessons on creating information products, you will benefit from combining this book with some of the other courses out there.

Tyler Schultz has written a good overview over creating information products - especially ebooks. Tyler's book covers the basics and may be a really good help to get started making money selling your own information products.
