Review

The author of this book, Shawn M. Casey, will probably already be known to many readers of this review. Shawn M. Casey is founder of Success Development International (now known as International Media Holdings) which for the last two years has been one of America's 500 fastest growing private companies. Besides, Shawn is Chairman and CEO Success Management Corporation, but most of you will probably know him better as the editor and publisher of the Big Dog Marketing ezine.

Before becoming a successful Internet marketer, Shawn was a corporate attorney for ten years. So you can say that he’s made quite a leap from the corporate world to becoming an Internet entrepreneur.

Shawn has also got some raving endorsements from such people as Robert G. Allen, who is one of the best known entrepreneurs today.

So, it’s obvious that Shawn M. Casey is one of the “heavy boys” in the business world. And now he’s written this book on how to build and market your own business on the Internet.

In “Mining Gold On the Internet: A Step-by-step Guide To Quick Cash Flow Online” Shawn Casey shows you what you can sell on the Internet – products and services.

Shawn’s book contains the basics, which you’ll find in most good books on building and running a successful business on the Internet. But in addition to the basics, “Mining Gold On the Internet” contains some less known ideas for getting a product or a service to sell. And I really like that. After a while you get tired of reading book after book, promising to show the road to success on the Internet, just to find out too often that it is yet another copycat of all the other books out there.

In “Mining Gold On the Internet” Shawn shows you how to build you own Internet business from scratch, how to get your own product, how to get traffic to your web site, cause those visitors to return to your web site again, and then turn them into customers.

Shawn has also written a very helpful and practical chapter on how to make you own marketing plan for your business. This is a really good chapter, where Shawn goes into the details of creating successful marketing plans. Besides, he shows you the pitfalls you should be careful to avoid.

Further, he shows how to build an ezine and get loyal subscribers from your web site traffic, how to buy direct response advertising for your product and web site etc.

I really like Shawn’s emphasis on building your business on solid marketing principles and strategies from the bottom up. He doesn’t just give you a few isolated techniques for getting more visitors to you site. No, I think it’s evident that he tries to give you a complete formula for establishing your own successful e-business.

Shawn Casey has also added some fine bonus-reports to his books. These reports aren’t the same old, rehearsed reports you’ll find everywhere on the Internet, but valuable reports on such important to  pics as, “How to Write Ads that Really Get Results” andHow To Get Paid Thousands Of Dollars For Sending Free Email Messages”. In particular I like the ad-report which is a fine and concise guide to writing order-pulling ads.

Shawn’s book is humorous, which comes as a welcome breeze among all the more dry Internet-and marketing-related books on the market today. It makes the book much easier to read.

Besides, I like the fact that “Mining Gold On the Internet” isn’t just like all the other books on the subject. I don’t mean that it’s totally unique. Steve covers much of the same material that you’ll find in some of the other, best courses on the Internet. I just mean that Shawn’s book is somewhat different from many of the other books on Internet Marketing and e-business. You get his own perspective on the subject, and not just a copycat of all the others books.

I think Shawn Casey has written a really good book, and my only little criticism is that you don’t get a whole lot of details on product development in his book. If you are the type of person who is  a self-starter and who has no problem with creating products, I see no problem. But many people need some more details on product development than just a few general guidelines.

When this is said, I readily admit that some of the product development ideas Shawn shares with you are more innovative than the common advice you get everywhere, when you’re told to “just write an ebook. It’s so easy.” Shawn’s advice clearly goes beyond this, and some of his ideas will probably give many readers some new ideas for potential business they can run.

It would have been interesting and helpful to get even more details on Shawn’s ideas on developing products and service ideas.

Summary

Is “Mining Gold On the Internet” worth the money? Yes, I would definitely say so! At least I’m happy to have this book which so nicely complements my other books on Internet Marketing.

Shawn Casey’s book may be particularly helpful to the beginner who wants to get a really good start in starting his or her business on the Internet. But even the expert may find a few pearls here.

At the time of this writing (april 2001) , “Mining Gold On the Internet” costs $39.95. Considering what you get for this price, I think it’s a good investment.
