Review

If you’ve subscribed to Scot Dantzer’s update list, you’ll notice that Scot Dantzer has become increasingly active on the Internet. He has published several books and courses, either written by himself or by others.

Scot Dantzer was one of the first marketers to use the socalled minisites – that is, small web sites (often only two or three pages), tightly focusing on just one point.

My experience has been very positive with his marketing related products, and it’s evident that Scot Dantzer is a clever marketer. He really knows what he’s talking about.

“The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is Scot Dantzer’s quick but yet still comprehensive manual on how you can quickly create your own PDF-documents which you can distribute on the Internet.

As you probably know, the PDF-format is the most popular format used on the Internet to distribute electronic reports, ebooks etc. And there are several reasons why it’s become so popular:

1)  PDF-documents can be read by practically all computer users - no matter whether they use a PC computer or a MAC computer.
2)  If you use PDF-files you can lock the contents of the documents and files you distribute to others. You can require them to use a password in order to open the PDF-document. You can prevent the readers of your documents to copy or change the contents. Whether your document contains text, graphics, illustrations, forms, links or something else, you can lock the format so that your PDF-documents look the same - even if the reader of the PDF-document don't have the programs you've used to create the contents of the PDF-document. The fonts and the look of your PDF-document will (almost always) remain the same, no matter which setting your receiver use. Besides, you can disallow printing of your PDF-documents, if you prefer that.
3)  PDF-documents don't fill much, compared to some other formats. This is important if you would like to sell and distribute electronic documents on the Internet. Not everyone on the Internet uses fast-connections. This means that it's often unrealistic for many users on the Internet to download files that fill more than, let's say, five megabytes. It'll simply take too long time. So, it's important to minimize the size of your documents as much as possible.
4)  Finally, personally I've always liked the looks of PDF-documents. The PDF-format look professional and clean. But of course it's always possible to make a PDF-document look like a mess if you don't know how to create a fine looking one. But from the outset, I like the look of the PDF-format.

“The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is itself a PDF-document, and when you read it, you’ll soon notice that it’s author, Scot Dantzer, has applied his own techniques to this ebook. The look of the document is clean and nice, and you can learn a lot about how to create nice and professional looking PDF-documents, just by seeing how Scot Dantzer has done it.

Sometimes it annoys me when I read an otherwise good ebook in the PDF-format, but the contents list of the book isn’t interactive. In other words, it’s not “clickable”. You can’t click on a headline in the contents list and thus immediately be lead to the corresponding section in the book itself.

The contents list in “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” looks nice, and it’s quite detailed, so that you can easily find what you’re looking for. And the contents list is “clickable”, so that you can quickly go to exactly the section you’re looking for in the manual.

When you buy “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” you also get access to the accompanying membership site with the latest versions etc.

In “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” you’ll learn such things as…

  • how to create your own PDF-documents from start to finish
  • how to format your PDF-documents
  • how to disallow your readers from copying the contents of your PDF-documents
  • how to disallow your readers from printing your PDF-documents
  • how to password protect your PDF-documents
  • how to merge PDF-documents
  • how to edit your PDF-documents
  • descriptions of “lifesaving” plug-ins

…Just to mention a few points!

Maybe you now think: “Why should I buy a book about PDF-documents, when there is a free help file included with the Acrobat Writer program?”

First of all, there is not just one way to create PDF-documents, but many. There are several other programs that can create PDF-documents for you. And some of them are even free. Scot’s book is primarily an introduction to the Adobe’s own Acrobat Writer program, but you might still benefit from his book, even if you use one of the other programs out there.

Secondly, Scot Dantzer’s “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is much easier to overview and use in your daily operations. You’ll easily find a step-by-step guide to the most common tasks you’ll run into when you create PDF-documents.

Thirdly, Scot gives you much more than just a guide to creating PDF-documents. For instance, you’ll get his personal checklist that he uses when creating ebooks.

Besides, in “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” Scot often shares his personal advice on the whole subject matter of PDF-documents, and ebooks in general.

Actually, this book is more than just a book on creating PDF-documents. It’s a more like a guide to preparing, writing, creating and customizing ebooks by using the PDF-format. Of course there are some aspects of ebook-publishing that Scot doesn’t cover. “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is primarily a guide to the more technical aspects of creating PDF-documents.

In short, in my opinion “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is simply a much better guide to making PDF-documents than the manual you get if you buy the Adobe Acrobat program. And even if you don’t have Adobe Acrobat, Scot Danzter shows you several other ways to create PDF-documents.

Overall assessment

“The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is an excellent guide to creating and customizing your own PDF-documents.

I’ve tried several times to use the instruction manual that I got with Adobe Acrobat. But to be honest I far prefer Scot Dantzer’s “The Five Minute PDF-Creator”. It’s easier to read, and you’ll find the exact answers you need to your questions about PDF-documents.

What I personally like the most in “The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is the combination of how easy it is to overview and the helpful step-by-step instructions.

“The Five Minute PDF-Creator” is an excellent example on how ebooks ought to look like and be. I wish more ebooks were like it.

The book is available by download after secure online purchase.
I used the book as one of my references when producing my first e-book, a large project of more than 400 pages of text, and firmly beleive that I would not yet have finished it without the focus and advice I got from this book and Scott's generous un-hyped advice by email (even before I bought his book) and in response to questions in related forums.
There is enough in this book which I had not found in the official Adobe material for me to unreservedly recommend Scott's book to anyone producing any material they intend to offer in Acrobat .pdf format
