Review
Russell Burnham is one of the
relative newcomers in the information business market. Anyway,
he has already established a reputation for being a clever
Internet marketer.
His most notable success is
probably his promotion of his mother's book, "The Garage
Sale Cook Book", http://www.garagesalecookbook.com,
which is written by his mother, but promoted by himself.
And according to Russell, his
mother's book has been very successful. So it's obvious that
Russell knows in practice what it takes to succeed.
Now Russell has written a
complete course on how to create your own information
products, how to write order-pulling salesletters and how to
promote it, primarily on the Internet.
The first part of his course
goes through some of the most important steps for creating
successful information products.
It's obvious that Russell
really understands how to make his products unique and
standing out in the crowded market. Even though his book is on
a subject that he shares with many other authors and marketers
on the Internet, he has his own, unique way of writing and
promoting his course. And as you may know, this is one of the
most important rules for making a product a success.
I also really like it that
Russell builds a whole strategy of creating and
marketing information products, instead of just jotting down a
few mechanic, how-to steps in the process. Though, when I read
through I thought that Russell at some places seems to sound a
little bit too philosophic. Besides, a few places he
doesn't seem to complete the train of thought that he has
begun. And some of the conclusions seem to be short-cuts
without the necessary argumentation.
But this is only a minor
criticism. And the resulting strategy has definitely much in
it's favour.
Overall, I really think that
Russell is to be commended for taking the time and the energy
to create a strategy of creating and marketing
information. And Russell tries to build this strategy upon an
attempt to understand the underlying psychology of the
Internet cuctomer. The result is a strategy that has proven to
work in reality.
Another very positive point in
this book, is that Russell don't limit himself to showing his
readers how to create ebooks, important as they are, though.
Russell also shows how to construct a secret site (also called
a member's only site), and he gives his personal
recommendations on which resources to use (which password
scripts to use etc.). This is really positive.
In the section on how to rank
higher on the search engines, Russell reviews several of the
most popular and useful software products (such as Engenius,
Swiss Army App and Webposition Gold) that can help achieving
this goal. And that's one of the aspects I really like about
Russell's course: He takes a personal stand. He shares his
personal experience and opinion on what works and what don't.
These reviews may be really helpful to the marketer who isn't
sure whether his or she should invest in some of the socalled
search engine submittance software or not.
Russell really seems at home on
his subject. You sense that he has "been there", and
"done that", as you say.
