How To Use A Fake
Newspaper To Increase Your Profits
by Michael Ross, author,
direct marketer and consultant
"It's nice
to be important, but it's important to be nice!"
This tip will reveal to you a
marketing technique that is hardly ever used today. In fact,
as far as I know it's never been used a lot. But just because
it's never been used doesn't mean it doesn't work. On the
contrary. This technique works like a charm - IF YOU USE IT.
So what is it? Well quite
simply it's a fake newspaper article which appears on the
front page of a fake newspaper. A fake newspaper YOU create
with your desktop publishing software.
Here's how it works . . . You
create your newspaper article and frame it in a real frame.
You then wrap this up in gift paper and tie it up with a
pretty ribbon. Then grab a piece of paper with your letterhead
on it and write "Dear (persons name), Please read the
enclosed article. I can make it happen. Regards, (your
name)." Fold this in on itself and pop it in an
envelope with the person name written on it, and attach it to
the gift. Then have this gift sent to the person via a
courier.
What happens is that the
secretary will pass this gift on to her boss - they do not
open personal gifts. The boss reads the note, reads the
article in the frame and then calls you to work out a deal.
So now you're wondering what
the article says aren't you? Well I'll tell you. The article
is about how this person (the person you sent it to) is
responsible for making a lot of money by buying your widget.
But not only that, the article is dated six months in the
future.
To show you what this sort of
article could look like I've turned my template for it into a
gif file which you can see by clicking
here. As you read the article you will notice that the
text is not justified. Be assured that it actually is. It's
just that when I turned it into a gif file it lost some of
it's formating. But you should still get a pretty good idea of
what it can look like.
Now, one thing you should know
about this technique. It has a proven response rate of 75%
with CEOs of major companies. Obviously *I* use it to sell my
expensive services as a copywriter and consultant. But YOU can
use it to sell just about anything. Anything that warrants
using this technique that is. And that means 'high priced'
items, because sending frames via courier can be a little
expensive.
So, if you've got a widget to
sell that is fairly pricey then this just might be the way for
you to successfully market it.
Let me give you an example or
two...
Recently (at the time of
writing this) a woman asked a question about how she could
make money from being a hand knitter. It was suggested to her
to make herself an exclusive knitter who only did one-offs,
and who charged ludicrously high prices. She could create an
article with a headline that goes something like "Persons
Name Voted Dad (or Mum/Mom) of The Year! And the article
could go on to say how they got this title because of the
loving gift they gave to their kids/spouse/family (a gift
bought from the woman in our example). Now, if she sells each
item for $1000 and up, it just might pay her to use this
method of marketing to CEOs, or anyone else with money.
Another example would be a
builder supplier. They could use a headline that goes
something like "ABC Builders Make Record Profits In
The Building Industry . . . And Save $300,000 On The Cost Of
Their Materials." And of course the article could go
on to say how pleased they are and so on.
Try this, it works!
May the success you achieve
be a direct result of the effort you put in!!
