Review
First of all let me say this, I
frankly admit that I am not an expert on Multi Level
Marketing (MLM). I haven't even ever been involved in MLM.
So why review a manual on MLM?
First, Matt Gagnon is a famous
Internet marketer whose eariler published manual "The
Million Dollar Manual" in my opinion is an excellent
guide to starting up and running your own information
marketing business - both online and offline.
So I already know that Matt
Gagnon certainly is worth listening to whenever he talks about
about running a successful business.
Secondly, this new manual by
Matt Gagnon, "Direct Networking: The Future of MLM",
is primarily a manual on how to build and run a successful MLM
business on the basis of sound MARKETING principles. This
means that Matt in "Direct Networking" is sharing a
lot of marketing advice in this book.
Matt starts with sharing his
personal story of what made him change his attitude towards
MLM. He shares how he has gone from being a skeptic to seing
real possibilities in MLM. But he underscores that he is still
very skeptic towards the common and prevalent kind of MLM.
What made him change his mind, though, was that he knew some
people who, dispite all the negatives in MLM, made a LOT
of money. Actually, they made much more money than himself,
dispite the fact that he is really successful in his
information marketing business.
Consequently, Matt Gagnon
started to investigate MLM closer. The driving principle
behind his search for the secrets behind the success of some
MLM-people, was his marketing expertise.
Gradually Matt developed a
system which, according to himself, quickly proved to be very,
very effective and profitable. The effectiveness of Matt's
system is also confirmed by Tim Altvater who, in the forword
to "Direct Networking: The Future of MLM", says that
Matt Gagnon is "the fastest growing US associate in my
entire [MLM] organization" (my parenthesis).
Next, Matt analyses the pros
and cons of Internet Marketing, Direct Marketing and MLM as a
way of building a profitable business.
He finds both positive and
negative things in all three ways of doing business (even
though there may be many .
The remaining part of
"Direct Networking" is a systematic explanation of
Matt's Direct Networking system.
Matt has developed a system
that, in my opinion, is close to genius. His
lead-qualification system is very helpful, both to
MLM-marketers and general Internet marketers. I'm sure that
this lead-generation system will be an enormous help to anyone
who wants to market a product or a service on the Internet.
What makes Matt's lead
generation so helpful, is that Matt gives you a concrete way
of screening the people who can be potential targets of your
sales message. Instead of wasting a lot of money and energy on
people who would never dream of becoming customers, Matt's
system can help you to target your efforts to exactly that
kind of people who are most likely to become your future
customers.
Now, of course "Direct
Networking" is of course primarily aimed at
MLM-marketers, but in my opinion it can also be a helpful
guide for everyone who's engaged in some kind of Internet
marketing. Matt goes through his own Internet marketing
system, and systematically shows you how to get more visitors
to your web site, and then turn them into loyal customers. He
also gives some good advice on how to choose a web host, how
to make a web site etc.
So even though "Direct
Networking" is a manual on MLM, it's first of all a
manual on how to succeed in MLM by learning how to market your
MLM business and how to get leads for it.
Even though I'm not an expert
on MLM, I can clearly see that Matt Gagnon has really found
the right way to succeed in MLM. Sometimes, you get the
impression that MLM is treated like something mystically, that
is raised above all common, sound principles for running a
business.
Partly, this false belief has
been nourished by the prevalent tendency to hype everything in
MLM, from the products to the potential income.
But now Matt has invented a new
approach to MLM that seems to be really effective. Before
writing this review, I contacted one of my Internet friends,
whom I know is now using Matt Gagnon's system. And I asked him
if the system is working for him. He confirmed that the system
is absolutely working for him.
To me it seems like Matt has
somehow cracked the secret code of becoming successful in MLM.
There are several reasons for
this. The main reason is that Matt has invented a whole SYSTEM
for succeeding in MLM - and not just made a few changes here
and there.
Maybe the strongest asset of
Matt's system is how he incorporates MARKETING into his
system. There are many mistakes that's being made in the usual
form of MLM, but perhaps the greatest mistake is the lack of
real, highly effective marketing. Matt shows how he has found
a way of getting leads for pennies, thanks to his specialized
marketing system.
I have a few criticisms of
Matt's manual. Some parts of "Direct Networking"
seems somewhat dry to me, though not outright boring. This
criticism especially goes for the more schematic parts, that
explains the different levels of leads. As I said above,
Matt's lead-generation system is quite genius, in my opinion.
But a lighter language, a few more illustrations and practical
applications would have done wonders in making it easy to
read.
This doesn't mean that Matt's
explanations of how his lead-system works makes the book less
valuable in any way. Not at all! As I said, this part of his
book is probably the most important part. It could just be
made somewhat more interesting.
Besides, Matt at some places
seems to presuppose that his readers already has a fairly good
knowledge of the basics of MLM, the way it works and the
problems connected with MLM.
It is absolutely
possible to read "Direct Networking" with no prior
knowledge about MLM, but a more detailed introduction to MLM
in general and the Direct Networking system would make the
manual even more useful.
Now, I know that Matt explicit
says that his book is addressed to total strangers to MLM.
Anyway, I feel that it would have been helpful if some of
the basics of MLM were explained better.
But don't let any of this keep
you from investing in this book. They are only minor
criticisms, and they certainly don't subtract from the fact
that this is a very useful book - primarily for people in MLM,
but certainly also for Internet marketers in general.
Summary
Matt Gagnon's new manual,
"Direct Networking: The Future of MLM", is an
important and useful tool - not just to people involved in
MLM, but also to anyone else who is involved in marketing.
As I said above, some parts of
Matt's book can seem a little bit dry. But ironically, I find
Matt's somewhat dry explanation of his lead system to be the
most interesting and helpful part of his book - that is, from
a marketing point.
Matt's lead-generation system
is almost genius. It gives the marketer a really good tool for
screening potential customers from people who will never
become customers. I think this part of Matt's book will be
very helpful to many marketers.
Matt's description of effective
Internet Marketing is certainly helpful - also for people who
is not involved in MLM. Matt has proved to be a master
Internet marketer himself, and he gives much good advice here.
Finally, let me just say this:
I've never been involved in MLM, but if I am ever going to try
it, my starting point will most probably be Matt Gagnon's
book. It seems like a real winner on how to start up and run a
highly successful MLM - or better: Direct Networking -
business.
