Review

For many years writing and publishing reports has been a very popular way of self-publishing your own information products. Such famous self-publishers as Jerry M. Buchanan, Dean F.V. DuVall, Russ von Hoelscher and Jeffrey Lant has all sold their own self-published reports. And they have been very successful doing it.

During the last two years reports have gained new popularity, but in a new format. Now more and more self-publishers have begun to publish their reports as electronic reports.

In this new report by Marcia Yudkin, she shows her readers how to write, publish and market their own reports (and booklets) - both in electronic and printed format.

Marcia covers all the basic steps you need to write, market and sell your own reports.

For instance, she shows you how to...

  • find a good topic for your reports
  • find good ideas for your reports
  • actually write your report
  • price your reports
  • market them
  • distribute them
  • set up back-end products
  • avoid some of the common pitfalls
  • etc.

Marcia Yudkin on pricing your reports

One thing I really like about "Profiting from Booklets & Special Reports", is what Marcia says about pricing your reports.

According to Marcia, most marketers tend to underprice their reports. Her advice is to price your reports much higher - provided, of course, that it's really worth it. This often means that you should charge much more for your reports than you personally tend to think.

Of course the price you choose to charge for your report, depends upon the content of your report. But again, according to Marcia, many marketers underprice their reports. And I totally agree.

By creating high-priced reports, you have a much higher profit margin. Besides, your reports get a higher perceived value.

Lots of real life stories and illustrations

Another thing I like about "Profiting from Booklets & Special Reports", is all the real life stories and illustrations that Marcia shares with her readers. This both makes it easier to read and apply to your life. Besides, the stories are encouraging.

Many concrete ideas and examples

One of the strongest assets of Marcia's report, is the many concrete ideas and examples of titles, topics, and reports which she mentions.

Often, many new self-publishers find it difficult to find a suitable subject or title for their first information product.

By mentioning actual reports that have already been written by others, and by suggesting topics and titles for potential reports that you can make, Marcia makes it easy for you to get started. This is a really strong asset of "Profiting from Booklets & Special Reports".

A few critical comments

I also have a few critical comments.

Marcia gives her readers a lot of helpful references and links to resources and tools that can be helpful. But she hasn't turned the URLs turned into click able links. It would have been really helpful if you could just click on the links and go to the resource or tool that she recommends.

I also miss page references in the contents list. This makes it a little bit difficult to navigate around in the report.

Besides, you'll have to consult some of Marcia's other works, if you want to learn more details about the actual writing process. In this report Marcia does give you a quick guide to writing your reports. But if you find it difficult to write, and if you want more specific advice on how to overcome this difficulty, you'll probably have to read some of Marcia's books and reports on that subject, or buy another book on that subject.

Strong on marketing

The marketing part of "Profiting from Booklets & Special Reports" is really good. It's evident that Marcia has actually done it herself. She knows what it takes to market your own products. And I like the fact that she gives you not just one or two, but several ways of marketing your reports.

Marcia is very strong on marketing your products by getting publicity for them. But she also covers such marketing methods as Advertising (including two-step marketing), Licensing and bulk sales, marketing through seminars, Online schmoozing, just to mention a few.

You don't get a lot of details about each way of marketing your product. But you get enough to get started.

Marcia also explains what to do if you run into problems with charging for your product. This is just another evidence that Marcia has personally done what she's talking about. She knows about all the problems that you could run into, and she shows you what to do about them.

Finally, one very commendable part of Marcia's book, is her chapter on how to set up profitable back-ends for your report. This is a very important aspect of successful Information Marketing which is too often forgotten or overlooked by many marketers. Marcia emphasises the importance of back-end products, and she gives you some suggestions for how you can set up your profitable back-ends.

Summary

Marcia Yudkin has written a report that's both a detailed and a practical guide to creating, marketing and distributing. Often these two characteristics exclude each other. But Marcia has managed to include them both in this report.

Much of the content in this report can be found in other reports on the same subject. But Marcia has picked out just the most important information your need and has made it easy to understand and apply.

Besides, I like the many concrete suggestions, real-life stories and personal experiences which Marcia shares with her readers. This makes "Profiting from Booklets & Special Reports" easy to read and encourages your to apply what you learn from Marcia.

All in all, I think Marcia has written a really good report which I recommend you to buy if you want to dig into the lucrative report-market.
