Review
This book is one of the
classics on how to write, selfpublish, market and sell a book,
booklet, manual or report.
I personally think that this
book is very good, and I found it to be very helpful. So did
apparently a lot of other people. At least Joe Barnes says
that many successful infopreneurs have been students of him.
For instance he says that one of his most famous students is Dr.
Jeffrey Lant, who is famous for his
many books.
"Writing For Fun and
Money" contains a lot of step-by-step instructions and
exercises. You really feel that the author takes you
hand-by-hand through the writing process.
And I feel that it is precisely
on teaching it's readers the process of writing that this
books has it's strength. Barnes covers most of all the basic
aspects of how you can write and publish your own information
products.
Joe Barnes really shows his readers how the process of writing
a book, manual, etc. can be broken down in several small steps
that are relatively easy to follow.
In opposition to some of the
other books on how to create information products, Joe Barnes
really tries to guide you step by step through the writing
process.
In some respects the book is
somewhat dated. For instance the book is written before the
computers became owned by almost every man and woman.
Consequently the description of the whole writing process, the
illustration process etc. doesn't take into account that these
tasks are much easier if you use a computer.
Don't let this fact hinder you
from buying this book, though! For even though the book is
somewhat dated on some the technical aspects, this book has so
much to offer in helping you to write that information
product.
So this book has many
strenghts. Though, I must say, it isn't as detailed on some
points as for instance the books by Don Bice. But then on some
other points, it gives you some invaluable advices that you
won't find in most other books on how to write, publish and
sell information material.
Consequently this should
absolute belong to any self-publisher's library. And he would
do wise to read it through periodically.
