Review
Coaching - whether it's personal life coaching or executive
coaching - has become more and more hot during the last 5-10
years. More and more books are being written on the subject,
and membership sites pop up. and almost no reputable
consultant leaves out the title, "coach", as part of
his or her job description. The author of this manual, David
Wood, emphasizes in his sales letter for this book that
starting your own coaching business is by no means a
get-quick-rich-scheme. You can make a decent amount of money
as a coach, provided you know how to do it. A few coaches
actually make a lot of money. But if you just do it for the
money, it's a bad idea to look for a coaching career. "The
CoachStart Manual"
by David Wood is a really fine introduction to coaching as a
business. David Wood shows you how to become a coach, how to
set up your business, which dangers you should look out for,
how to get customers etc. "The
CoachStart Manual"
is very readable, and you get a good help to start your own
coaching business. I
like the way that David Wood shares his own experiences with
you the reader. This is not a dry and boring theoretical
treatise. It's more like one person telling another (you, the
reader) how to do what he's himself done. The
manual isn't long (just around 50 pages). But I think that's
commendable. There seems to be a tendency among some authors
and marketers to think that, 'longer is better'. Personally
I want to get the information I'm looking for as quickly as
possible, without having to read hundreds and hundreds of
pages that just endlessly repeat and repeat what's already
been said. "The
CoachStart Manual"
gives you just the information you need. You get a really good
help to start your own coaching business. David Wood dares to
say his own, personal opinion. You don't just get a lot of
alternatives. No, David Wood shows you, based on his own
experience, what works and what doesn't. David
Wood's manual (and his web sites in general) is an excellent
example on a marketer who's found a niche he "burns"
for. Something he really has a true interest, and which he
earns money on.
Overall
assessment
I've personally read several books on coaching - both some
dealing with the coaching process itself and some dealing with
the business aspect.
"The CoachStart Manual" is a really fine and helpful introduction
to how you can start your own coaching business. It's based on
the practical experiences of a coach who's himself already
'gone the way'. David Wood shares what he's discovered works,
and what doesn't.
If you're interested in starting a successful coaching
business, if you're wondering how you get customers,
"The CoachStart Manual" is a fine and really useful guide along the
way.
