Review

Years ago, when I first got interested in Information Marketing, Direct Marketing and the Mail-Order business, one of the really big guys who had been most successful, was Brooks Owen. Brooks was a student of one of the modern pioneers in the Information Marketing business, and it was evident that he really knew his stuff.

I bought most of Brooks Owen's book and reports, and they always contained something really helpful and interesting.

Brooks published book after book and report after report on how to earn money through business opportunities, Information Marketing, Direct Marketing and the Mail-Order business. And there was no doubt about it that Brooks really knew what he was doing. While most other so called business opportunities was unrealistic and didn't work for most people, Brooks' reports and books kept a high standard.

This also resulted in the situation that Brooks was able to semi-retire and travel around the world for some years. Brooks had realized the dream of most aspiring information entrepreneurs.

However, about one of two years ago, Brooks became active on the Internet. He set up his own web site and began to sell some of his books on the net.

I don't know, but I guess he doesn't do it for the money, as he probably has earned enough to enjoy life on a beach if he preferred to do that. So he's probably not doing it for the money. No, I guess he simply likes this business so much that he does it out of pure interest and in order to help other people who wants to succeed selling information products.

"Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox" is much, much more than just another book on how to earn money from the Internet. It is - as the title also says - a (complete) guide to succeeding in Mail Order, whether you want to use the techniques of Mail Order offline or online. Many entrepreneurs have stopped marketing their products in the offline world. And that's precisely one of the biggest mistakes being made today.

If you want to make money through your own information business, I strongly advice you not to discard the off-line market. Just ask a man like Jimmy Krug - http://www.simplepublications.com/ - who's sold more than a million booklets off-line.

"Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox" is a complete introduction to the Mail-Order business. Brooks has included all the basics (and a good part of the more advanced stuff) that you need to know in order to earn money from your own information business.

Brooks also shows his readers how to use the old proven Mail-Order principles and methods to earn money on the Internet. However, "Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox" primarily covers off-line marketing. That is, if you want to no a lot of the more technical aspects about the Internet, you probably have to supplement Brook's book with some of the other books on covering these aspects.

This doesn't mean that you can't learn anything from this book if you don't want to market your information products off-line.

Far from it!

The mistake that nearly everyone - myself included - makes on the Internet, is that they think that all the technology on the Internet somehow requires you to market information products in a totally different way than how you would do it off-line. And nothing could be more wrong.

Basically, people are the same, whether they're on the Internet or off-line. And if you want to sell information products on the Internet, I strongly advice you to listen to what the successful Mail-Order "gurus" has to say.

"Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox" covers how to create your own information products. The chapter, "Secrets of Writing and Producing an Profitable E-Book", shows you how you can create your own e-books.

He also shows you how to market your information products.

Today, you'll find these two subjects covered in many other books. However, Brooks doesn't stop there. he goes on and shows you how to actually start up your business and run all the day-to-day operations. Brooks goes into great details here, which I really appreciate. There are way too many generalities floating around in most of the books you can buy on Information Marketing. But this doesn't apply to "Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox".

One of the very best parts of "Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox", is Brooks guide to creating and using strong offers and sales material in your marketing. Brooks really knows how to write order-pulling sales copy. There's no doubt about it that Brooks is a master here.

Actually I like this part of the book so much that I think it belongs to some of the very best I've read on how to create order-pulling sales copy. It's that good in my opinion.

Some of the information in "Secrets from the Million-Dollar Mailbox" is assembled from earlier published books and reports written both by Brooks Owen and his friend Ed Simpson. But it's evident that Brooks really have tried to update these earlier published products and then mix them with totally new material and turn them into an integrated unit.

One thing I miss in the book is a better navigation. The book looks really fine, but it would have been helpful if you could click on the headlines in the contents list at the beginning of the book and thus go directly to the corresponding chapter in the book. But it isn't any really serious criticism. It would just have been nice to have this feature included.

Finally, if you've bought this book, Brooks offers to help you personally in your business. Of course this probably don't mean that you'll get hours and hours of free consulting. But if you have a question or two, Brooks offers to help you personally. This raises the value of this book even more.

Overall assessment

In my opinion Brooks Owen has written a really fine book which can be invaluable for anyone interested in earning money through mail-order - whether totally new to mail-order or more experienced.

On 500 pages you'll learn exactly how to start and run your own information business, whether you want to do it off-line or on-line.

Brooks is particularly strong on showing you how to set up your own attractive offers and sales literature. But you'll also learn all the basics of creating your own information products and running your own information business.

I highly recommend this book. I really, really like it. My advice is to buy it before Brooks decides to raise the price.

Comment: Much to my surprise, Brooks Owen offers this fantastic book for free (you just pay for the shipping and handling). I don't know how long this offer is valid, but I strongly recommend you to take advantage of this generous offer.
